The mountains behind the mountain
I remember I was really looking forward for a short trip with a special friend, whom I met when I first moved to Germany for my internship. We did so many things together and we used to talk a lot back then. Since he moved away from Germany we’re talking a bit less, but we can always continue where we left it before. So we decided that we do a one day trip for cleaning up our minds and talking about plans and ideas.
The plan was simple and actually it ended up in a perfect day, I can only recommend it to anyone who is traveling around the Basel region. So we started the day with a hike to the Belchen, which is a smaller peak in the Black Forrest. You can reach up really fast and you will have a wonderful view of the Alps. (if you are lucky and there are no clouds)
We sat in the grass at the top and just enjoyed the view. I could do it every day. It’s amazing just to sit there and ease your mind. Then we took lunch at the restaurant on the top of the Belchen, and headed down to Basel. If you could see the Alps from the Belchen and it’s summertime, you have a good chance for the afternoon round as well, which is swimming in the Rhein. Okay, I would call it floating in the Rhein… there is no need to swim, the Rhine is fast and takes you down the river, while you can enjoy one of the best views of the authentic Basel. On the walk back you can just drink a coffee next to the river. We did this on a Monday and we were not the only ones who were swimming in the Rhein on the first weekday. Actually is looks funny when you are rushing up net to the river for the next round with you waterproof bag and flipflops and some people just finished work and they are still in their suits.
For you - who are curious - I recommend to try it out. It was so relaxing that I didn’t take my camera with me. However I am sure I will do this again, so images maybe next time.
